Drawing with Thread: From Tradition to Contemporary Art (Jan 4 - Feb 8, 2026)

$320.00

Start the new year by expanding your stitching practice with this six-session, creative, embroidery workshop!

Go beyond pre-made kits and traditional hoop embroidery to explore stitching as a form of personal expression. In this six-week course, you’ll learn fundamental stitches as a beginner or expand your stitch vocabulary if you already have experience. Each session combines a short talk, warm-up exercise, and dedicated work time.

Learn about the history of embroidery—from clothing and home textiles around the world to its place in contemporary art—drawing inspiration from historical examples and artists working with thread today. You’ll experiment with both traditional and modern materials, using creative exercises to spark ideas and loosen your hands.

The goal is to discover stitches you love and explore new ways to make marks, patterns, colors, and lines with needle and thread. No drawing experience is needed—you can follow patterns or work freehand to create your own stitched composition. You might surprise yourself when you start stitching freehand!

You’ll create an embroidery piece that you can choose to hang as artwork or use a piece of clothing as your canvas. Before the first class, I will email you some questions to think about and ask you to have your fabric or piece of clothing ready to stitch at the first session.

Limited to 6 participants.
