Mexican Embroidery with Folkwear Patterns, May 10

Mexican Embroidery with Folkwear Patterns, May 10

$60.00

Back again this spring! I am delighted to collaborate with Folkwear Patterns for this special workshop on Mexican embroidery! In this two-hour online class, we’ll cover basic embroidery stitches and start embroidering the design that accompanies Folkwear’s Old Mexican Dress (142) in Image 2. Purchase the sewing pattern to sew the dress or blouse after we’ve embroidered the yoke or join to embroider the floral design together. The embroidery pattern and yoke pattern piece will be provided with the workshop.

The dress draws from the 16th-century Spanish colonial style that has survived through the centuries in central and northern Mexico, resulting in what most people think of today as the Mexican folk blouse. I’ll share a bit about different styles of Mexican embroidery, my experience learning from a master embroiderer in Oaxaca, and how to design your own pattern.

The workshop is suitable for beginners or seasoned stitchers looking for a fun sewing project and design inspiration. Stitch your own summer blouse or dress!

Materials Needed:

Cotton or linen fabric (or see the Folkwear dress pattern instructions)
Embroidery or crewel needle
Six-stranded cotton embroidery floss
Water-soluble or heat-sensitive pen, or regular pencil for tracing the design
Hoop
Scissors

Please refer to this list to gather your materials and the Folkwear pattern if you’ll be sewing the dress. As soon as you’ve registered, I’ll send the instructions to prepare your fabric, the pdf, patterns, and Zoom link.
