Stitch Your Own Espadrilles This Summer!

Melissa of A Happy Stitch invited me to participate in her artist’s series of make-your-own espadrille kits. Until July 22 you can purchase a kit with my modern floral embroidery design and everything you need to make your own shoes! Espadrilles are the ultimate summer shoe and they’re surprisingly easy to make following the steps in the kit and my embroidery pdf. Note: Although most of the project is hand-stitched, you do need to use a sewing machine for a few sturdy seams.

My embroidery pattern was inspired by Hungarian poppies, Dutch peonies, and the abstract floral patterns I create in my fine art practice. Lines have always been a theme in my artwork from installations I made as an MFA student to photographs through the years and now stitched artwork. It’s especially satisfying to combine references from traditional textiles I have studied while traveling and my personal creative work.

If you buy the kit please let me know how it goes! I’d love to hear your feedback and help you with any questions.
