Fall: A Time of Transition

This is the first October since I began ThreadWritten in 2012 that I am not visiting Transylvania.  I miss the friends I have made, the beautiful textiles, home-cooked meals, as well as the annual market in Negreni. Over the last year I have shifted my focus from product development and manufacturing to cultural preservation through education.  I teach workshops in the Bay Area sharing textile practices, primarily embroidery thus far.  Sharing the history, skills, and the stories of the women who continue their traditions today has always been the heart of ThreadWritten; focusing on teaching is a natural progression.  I am teaching my Hungarian written embroidery workshop again tomorrow, Sat. October 15, at the Handcraft Studio School in the San Francisco Bay Area. As sad as I am to not be visiting the Unitarcoop, Piroska, Anna, S. Piroska, Maria, Istvan, Csilla and her family, and Sarah and Douglas, I am grateful to be sharing our work together, their stories, and the incredible embroidery to enrich lives in California and all over the world. I hope to return to Transylvania for a good visit and further research in the near future. We will stay in touch!
