Experience culture, textiles, and history with a small group of textile enthusiasts. Open to embroiderers of all levels, including absolute beginners,* and anyone seeking color, pattern, and creativity! Meet and learn from locals at the source of the tradition, eat delicious food, study art, architecture, and craft.
*Non-embroidering culture enthusiasts and partners or spouses are welcome, too!

Lisbon, Sintra, and Évora: Arraiolos Hand-Stitched Rugs

The Alentejo region + Lisbon, Portugal

With an introduction to Lisbon and Sintra’s palaces, art collections, and storied neighborhoods, we’ll explore UNESCO World Heritage city Évora, stitch the Arraiolos carpet technique in its namesake town, visit weavers, potters, and more with an artist’s residency herdade amongst the oaks and hills as our home base! Explore the local textile culture, both traditional and contemporary, the Arraiolos stitch, and work on a creative piece inspired by the place.
