Beginner Level / General Interest:
Are you brand-new to embroidery and wondering if it will become your new hobby? Are you organizing a team-building event at your company? Start with a large selection of thread colors (Anchor brand below makes a good quality thread and is more economical) and the Leonis pens for a group or order a small kit of DMC thread and the Clover single embroidery pen (disappears with cold water), or the Frixion pens (disappear with heat/ironing) for yourself. Order a 4” hoop for my Monogram classes (link under Groups) or a 6” hoop (link under On Your Own) for any other classes I teach. Scroll down for fabric. Click on the images:

Note: For Hungarian Written Embroidery I sell the Transylvanian cotton thread HERE.

Embroidering On Your Own:

Or buy just a few skeins of DMC floss, a hoop, and some sharp embroidery or crewel needles from your local craft or fabric store. Hoops are optional. Many people all over the world don’t use them but I find them helpful. I have a hoop on a stand, as shown above. Your non-stitching hand doesn’t get tired gripping the hoop and it’s easy to use anywhere.

I like to buy fabric from local shops or independent sellers but here are more quick and easy recommendations. Muslin by the yard for practice work, cotton tea towels, and a natural linen (20 inch width). Click on the image below:

Committed Stitcher / Intermediate and Advanced:

Thread: DMC 6 Stranded Floss and Perle Cotton no. 8. I also sometimes use Anchor thread and all sorts of threads or light yarns like lace or sock weight cotton or wool. If it fits through your needle, try it!
