Dutch Design Week is a week-long event throughout the city of Eindhoven celebrating all aspects of design in The Netherlands. I tried to pack in as much as I could in one day!

What a surprise to find a pumpkin patch in a residential neighborhood while walking to my first destination, the Crafts Council Nederland Crafts Academy display! The Academy is for students and taught by two colleagues in the Crafts Council Borduuschool, Martine van’t Hul and Desiree Hammen with several other artists. The program offers young people the opportunity to learn from professionals in the rich environment of several museums. Students studied four techniques: calligraphy and decorative painting, embroidery, basket weaving, and kite making.

I then stopped at the exhibition of Saar Scheerlings who makes these soft Totems. She also works in ceramics, glass, and 2-D work.

Ruben Warnshuis uses craft methods to solve modern problems. Here are some of his woven shoes. It was so much fun seeing his workspace, tools, and work in progress.

I had a nice chat with Christoph Brach of Raw Color design studio. They were considering using embroidery for a recent project and ended up making this piece using machine quilting instead.

The architecture around Raw Color’s studio and the Piet Hein Eek studios was modern and varied! It looks like this scene with the fall foliage on this home could’ve inspired the quilt!

Visiting the Piet Hein Eek studios was inspiring! They were getting ready to host a dinner on the “longest table” in the immense wood shop. The studio shop is beautifully curated with local and EU products. A few studios are currently available for rent– how great to work in that community!

The New Order of Fashion exhibition showcased young fashion designers including these pieces inspired by traditional Sardinian clothing by London-educated Sardinian designer Ivan Delogu.
