Traditional Czech and Slovak Clothing
Every time I run across a photo of the traditional clothing from The Czech Republic or Slovakia I think I must learn more… and visit whenever we can travel again! Here are a few styles from each country. Like the clothing of Central and Eastern Europe the two countries share the use of shawls and kerchiefs, incorporating pleats and lace collars that originated in the Renaissance and bell-shaped skirts with large puffed sleeves from the Baroque period. You’ll notice floral motifs similar to Hungarian and Romanian embroidery and even hearts with cutwork a bit like the textiles from the Minho in Portugal. Enjoy!
