IndieGoGo Update: new friends

April 04, 2017

Thank you to everyone who has donated to or shared my campaign so far!  It is so gratifying to feel your support.  Limited edition embroidery stitched by Anna, Piroska P, Piroska S, and the women of the Unitarcoop is still available.  Share the campaign with friends and textile enthusiasts you know!  At this point my airfare is covered and there are only 9 days left!  Help cover the residency fee and train travel to meet new friends....The campaign link:  http://bit.ly/2mGHQEq

Two exciting developments have sprung up thanks to Instagram!   I can't tell you how thrilled I was to receive messages offering help!  Two connections, Atje and Jeffry in the Netherlands, will introduce me to groups of women who still dress in costume, from whom I can learn how to make their traditional headdresses.  Atje lives in Zeeland, the region of the costume pictured above and Jeffry is a photographer who has been documenting the remaining 140 women in Spakenburg who still wear traditional clothing, including the finely crocheted "cap".  The "cap" is called an "ongermus" in Dutch which translates as the cap under the original cap.  I wonder what the original cap was!  Will let you know!
