Travel Report 2013, Part One of Many

After a whirlwind trip back to Transylvania, October 8 - 15, followed by a full day in Budapest and a couple days in New York on my way home, I am marveling at my experiences.  Each day was full with people to meet, beautiful homes and textile collections to see, and stories to share. The Unitárcoop and the Kalotaszeg women loved the first sample bags, seeing their traditional work in a new, modern form. We greeted with hugs and kisses and I was happy to learn that everyone was in good health and excited to do more embroidery in the coming months.  Piroska S. thanked me for the work, telling me that it helped her buy firewood that will heat her home this winter.  From saying a few words about the project in the Hungarian Reformed church's Sunday service in Kispetri, to visiting my Hungarian language tutor in her town of 120 people, to riding a bicycle through the Kalotaszeg hills, to touring the factory outside of Marosvásárhely/ Targu Mures where the fabric is made for the bags, there's much to share....

Here I am with artisan Piroska S. showing her work on the laptop case sample in her apartment in Banffyhunyad/ Huedin, October, 2013.
